Ethan Bassoff

Ethan Bassoff started his career in 2004 as a bookseller and events host at Brookline Booksmith. He then joined InkWell Management as a literary assistant, and in 2012 he became an agent at Massie & McQuilkin.

As a Senior Agent at Ross Yoon's New York office, Ethan represents a wide range of bestselling writers of fiction and nonfiction. He looks for original stories told by equally original voices, and specializes at guiding emerging writers through their first publications, and advising them on how to build long, successful careers. His nonfiction clients include national bestsellers and winners of the Pulitzer Prize and the Livingston Award, among other honors. He is interested in many subjects such as investigative reporting, true crime, history, current events, cultural criticism, sports, science, technology, and entertainment. His fiction and creative nonfiction includes novelists, short story writers, and memoir and essay writers. They have been New York Times bestsellers, winners of the PEN/Hemingway Award, the Whiting Award, Barnes & Noble Discover Great Writers, and finalists for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Ethan regularly lectures about book publishing at universities and conferences across the country, and he keeps store browsers in mind when signing new authors and brings a strong editorial approach to all proposals and manuscripts, understanding that great ideas must also tell compelling stories. He lives in New Jersey with his wife and two kids.
